And what I mean by prayer is I finally took a breath." I don't love everything in this book, but I resonated with this. Prayer from the body that knows. I'm also looking for new ways to look at old teachings, old paradigmns. Upcycling them.
Hello Andi- I'm one of Marion Roach Smith's former students. just finished your essay- the one that Marion included in her latest email. It was a delightful read. The adjectives that come to mind are thoughtful, relatable, and well written. Your bio description about leaving the faith to find faith in yourself makes me want to read more. I wish you the best with your upcoming memoir.
That must have been a major surprise to see your own work there! I will be sending Marion a copy of the article I've written about her when it comes out this spring. It was about writing memoirs (in general) and I reviewed (compare and contrast!) hers, Alison Wearing's and one I took with a British memoirist, called Marnie Summerfield. I think I like Marion's "no nonsense" approach the best, but the others certainly had their place too. Alison was such a good presenter, constantly pushing us to literary excellence, and Marnie too, had such a warm and pleasant way of presenting the same information. I think Marnie's best attribute was she made you think you could do it.
Read "Your Body Knows before you Do", on the Memoir Ink Alumni. I've taken that course and Marion Roach's too. So I guess we have a sort of parallel path. I've started Substack as well, Memorist in the Museum, or if you can't find it under that name, maybe you can find it by looking for ROSEHURST431.substack. If you fancy having a look, that is.
