Dear Readers (and welcome, new subscribers—several in January!):
I am working against a self-imposed deadline to finish my revised draft of Act I and Act II of my memoir to send to my developmental editor by midnight tonight.
So why am I writing a Substack post? Because I have some timely publication news. An excerpt from my memoir-in-progress has just been posted on Feminism and Religion. Some of you may recognize it as a version of an earlier Substack post, but for most of you, it may be brand new. You can read it here: Your Body Knows Before You Do by Andrea Penner (feminismandreligion.com) The comments are worth reading, also. It’s on a WordPress site, so it’s open-access, but to comment I think you have to log in with your WordPress login/password.
Thank you for reading, here and there.
Until next,
Andi
Congratulations. To your comment: "I'm always looking for new ways to think about prayer:" from *Mary Magdalene Revealed* by Meggan Watterson, I loved this: "I said a prayer. And what I mean by prayer is I finally took a breath." I don't love everything in this book, but I resonated with this. Prayer from the body that knows. I'm also looking for new ways to look at old teachings, old paradigmns. Upcycling them.
Hello Andi- I'm one of Marion Roach Smith's former students. just finished your essay- the one that Marion included in her latest email. It was a delightful read. The adjectives that come to mind are thoughtful, relatable, and well written. Your bio description about leaving the faith to find faith in yourself makes me want to read more. I wish you the best with your upcoming memoir.
