Thanks, Andi. Ms. Lorca's observation is wonderful: "That is why no one can teach anyone else to create…. [W]e must teach ourselves, stumbling, falling, and picking ourselves up over and over again…" That's why have so many bumps on my knees!

Hi Andi,

I am glad to receive your Substack entry this evening, and here are a few reflections that you prompted.

I don’t know if you (or others) have heard this one: B.I.C.H.O.K. Butt In Chair Hands On Keyboard, a saying from Lighthouse Writers in Denver.

I tell myself that my daily writing practice is not wasted. Sometimes journaling becomes part of a story, but if doesn’t the practice still matters. I write about daily events, joys, and hardships. I work through problems. The process of having to DESCRIBE something (anything) is the challenge. Then, the success when after bumbling through excess words, I find the right words.

If I dare compare myself to Andi (!?!?) I have those boxes, and file folders, and envelopes! Numerous notebooks, stories, poems, letters and way too many pictures. An archive. Your list says it all.

Thank you for sharing your process and naming the writers who have influenced and inspired you.

Mary
