Hi Andi and Substack Readers,

I’m responding to your latest post about visiting your mother’s niche in Las Vegas, it concludes by asking readers to consider their legacy. Several years ago I wrote my own obituary, a reflection on things important to me. My brother said, “You’d have to be famous to get that much ink.” Okay, so it was long. But it was good to write my values on paper.// My Dad died in Tennessee in October 2011, and my mother in January 2019. The verse from Micha 6:8 (justice, kindness, and walk humbly) they each selected, before they died, to be read at their memorial services. They are buried at New Providence Presbyterian Church.// I also related to your online search, followed by phone calls, to find your mother’s niche in Las Vegas. I was on a similar search to find the burial site of my paternal great grandmother’s grave in Staten Island, New York. Several years after I discovered her location, in October 2019, I actually got to visit her gravesite. I met (so to speak) part of the Archer family tree buried at Fairview Cemetery. I felt very fortunate to make that long and expensive journey.// Thank you for the stories you share and the encouragement to offer to your fellow writers. Mary
