Thanks for these reminders! I needed them! It's beautifully written, per always.

Whoa. I never knew about National Healthcare decision day and I intend to consider your suggestions more fully now as opposed to waiting. And thanks for considering the lady bug. What a pertinent reminder of how to think about these decisions more broadly. Great post.

Thank you, Patricia. The subtleties of any individual's health care are easily overlooked by health plan, insurance company, hospital, clinic, emergency room, or the staff, and the person being treated is at the mercy of the system whose goals for us are different from what we may want (or not want) for ourselves. Thank you for not waiting.

Communication/conversations are so very important regarding wants, needs, plans for now, the future. Your piece hit home. Mom is 91 and will be coming to live with us. I've made sure that her wishes/trust have been all written down. I have yet to do the same. My sister passed last October and had no tangible property in her name, but she made clear her wants. I think everyone has made their plans clear to me because I'm the one who makes sure things are completed. I guess what is painfully obvious is that you have to make time for yourself - meaning me to take care of those loose ends. Thank you for the reminder.

I did not spend this past April 16 updating my notebook.... So I write to remind myself, also, that the process is ongoing. I'm glad your sister expressed her preferences and that you've helped your mom do the same, Julie. Sounds like you are the AIC for your family, i.e., the Adult-In-Charge. Been there! Thanks for reading and replying.
